Dear friend:
The School Nutrition Bill and the Local Farm Products Bill are on the move and they are expected to be debated on the House floor this week!
The School Nutrition Bill is supported by over 100 partner organizations and has been endorsed by newspapers, school committees, city councils, and boards of health across the state. (Click here for the fact sheet and full list of supporters.)
We also have the opportunity to amend the bill to include the full text of The Local Farm Products Bill - another top priority bill for MPHA! This bill would eliminate barriers for schools that wish to purchase direct from local farms, and help to create increased and steady revenue for Massachusetts farmers.
In previous years, the soda industry has blocked this legislation at the last minute. We need your help to make this year different.
Please call your Representative before Thursday. Tell him or her that parents and children are depending on strong nutrition standards to ensure that kids grow up healthy, are alert and ready to learn, and develop positive eating habits for life. Be sure to say that you support including the language of H2107, the Local Farm Products Bill. (If you don't know who your Representative is, click here to enter your address. Look for "Representative in General Court." See below for a sample script for making your call.)
We're at a critical juncture -- please join our efforts!
Sincerely,
