2009 Emerging Minority Leaders Conference

Once again Massachusetts has the opportunity to send 2 candidates to the Emerging Minority Leaders Conference. Please see the details from National PTA below and let me know if you or anyone you know is interested in participating.

NPTA's Emerging Minority Leaders Conference: No Leader Left Behind

The annual PTA Emerging Minority Leaders Conference is just around the corner! EMLC has been growing and connecting more and more emerging leaders each year and this year is no exception. New ideas and new speakers await this year's participants and your help is needed!

The fourth annual Emerging Minority Leaders Conference will be held November 6th - November 8th, 2009, in Atlanta GA. This year's participants will attend workshops sessions that enhance the leadership skills you have cultivated in their home state. Participants will learn how to better apply their leadership skills and become a part of a national network of current and former EMLC participants with which to share information and resources.

The EMLC has served as a catalyst for new ethnic minority leaders to grow and assume new positions of leadership at the highest levels of PTA. Many EMLC identified leaders have gone on to positions of District Directors, Vice Presidents and even state President-Elects and Presidents.

Like last year, National PTA will cover the cost of conference registration, airfare, hotel, and per diem for two ethnic minority PTA leaders from each state. 2 things to remember as you identify your state's participants:

 - Both of these leaders must be an ethnic minority that is underrepresented in PTA.
 - Only one of these leaders can be a participant who ever attended an EMLC conference before.
 - While the other could be a new emerging leader; or, both can be new emerging leaders.

Although National PTA can only subsidize the cost of two participants per state, it is my hope that you will spread the word to as many emerging ethnic minority leaders as you can. If additional minority leaders, or any leaders in your state, have an interest in attending, they might also consider covering their own expenses. We welcome the sharing of creative ideas from your state and others to find sources of funding to support the attendance of more leaders at this conference. Please share your thoughts and ideas for funding with us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll share them with other state leaders and with our Resource Development team.

Please forward the name, address, e-mail, and telephone number of your selected leaders no later August 19, 2009 to Kim Hunt at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . After The State PTA has selected attendees, the national office will contact participants directly to provide them with additional travel and hotel registration information.

Hotel Accommodations:
National PTA will cover the cost of a single room (room and tax only) for the approved conference dates for the subsidized attendeeseach state selects. Additional attendees not covered by National PTA are responsible for their own hotel accommodations and must reserve their own hotel room by contacting the hotel directly.

This year's Emerging Minority Leaders Conference will be held at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, GA
