Members Taking Action
With your effort, advocacy, and action you can feel proud of the incredible difference you made for your community and communities across the state.
The resounding 70% to 30% defeat of the repeal of the state personal income tax is staggering and could not have been achieved had not thousands of PTA members come out to volunteer at hundreds of campaign events in towns across the state.
Massachusetts PTA was an early supporter of the statewide coalition opposed to the dangerous proposal Question 1. At Regional Summer Leadership Meetings in August, PTA Leaders learned about the long-term consequences of cutting our state budget by $12 billion. Your response was immediate and began by educating members of your communities. It continued as hundreds of you held signs, sent letters to your local papers, and recruited thousands of pledges to Vote No on Question 1. At hundreds of volunteer phone banks
you made thousands of calls to identify undecided voters and get out the vote.
Because of your commitment and dedication you made it clear that we must remain steadfast in our commitment to keep our communities safe and strong and protect public education.
There is still work to be done, of course, and investing in our children must remain a priority, despite economic challenges. Continuous growth to our base is crucial to fulfilling our mission as advocates. As an all volunteer organization, we rely on membership dues to support our work.
As work on this ballot initiative has shown, PTA is much more than meetings and fundraisers; PTA offers a vast network of resources for
parents, schools, and communities to work together. Joining Massachusetts PTA is an easy way for people to connect to and enrich the learning environment for your child and all schoolchildren. We need everyone to get involved to speak for every child with one voice.
Membership is open to any person who wants to make a difference in children's lives - please encourage five of your friends and relatives to join in our work. JOIN HERE
Thank you again for your work to soundly defeat Question 1 - and for all you do for our children each and every day.
